History Page Timeline for 40th Anniversary

Industry leader Summit Security Services, Inc., which provides comprehensive security, investigative, and background screening services to a wide range of clients, is celebrating its 40th Anniversary. Join Summit as we look back at the past four decades of service and dedication to excellence.

1976Summit is founded by Richard N. Auletta, NYPD Detective (ret.), with its first office in Elmhurst, Queens.

1984: The company opens its New Jersey Regional Office, its first office outside of New York State. By 2016, it is one of the largest family-owned businesses in the state.

1985: Summit opens its Long Island Regional Office and is recognized for 5 straight years, starting in 2011, as the largest provider of security and investigative services on Long Island.

Mid 1980s: Summit wins major security contracts with commercial businesses, universities, and residential communities.

1989The future Co-Presidents—Robert and Nicholas Auletta—join the firm.


1990:
Summit expands its footprint and opens an investigations/background screening office in California.

more complete footprint within the New York Metropolitan Area.

1995: Summit establishes its Aviation Division Office at JFK International Airport and pre-screens millions of airport passengers.  The Aviation Division will grow to cover all of the Metropolitan Area airports.

1997
Future Co-President Robert Auletta earns the coveted Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation.

2000s: Summit’s growth includes major contracts with Fortune 500 firms. Summit’s security specialists monitor global client facilities and regional transportation systems.

September 11, 2001:
 A dark day: 11 on-duty Summit security professionals are among the almost 3,000 killed in the World Trade Center terrorist attack. (Summit was the primary security provider at Towers 1 and 2).

2002Founder Richard Auletta is succeeded by sons and Co-Presidents Robert and Nicholas Auletta as owners of the firm.

2002:
Summit moves its growing New York B&N 4aRegional Office from Queens to Manhattan.

2009: Summit expands its California operations and opens the Summit of California regional office.

2010: The firm’s Background Screening and Investigations Division expands operations across all 50 states and internationally.

2011: The firm rebrands its background
screening services to SummitScreen after significant investment in personnel and technology.

2011
: Summit is approved as a federal security and investigative services contractor by the Government Services

2012: Summit expands its operations to Connecticut and opens a regional office in New Haven.

2013The company reaches contract revenue milestones, and ranks among the largest contract security and investigative services firms in the U.S.

2013:
Summit’s New York City Regional Office moves to its new, modern space on 36th Street and eclipses 70,000 hours of service per week.

2014: Inc. Magazine lists Summit as one of the fastest growing, privately-owned companies in the United States in its prestigious annual Inc. 5000 list.

2014: Summit client portfolio grows to over 700 clients but continues to maintain a client retention rate of over 95%.

2015Summit opens the doors to its new Capital Regional Office in Albany to manage its growing business in New York’s Capital Region.

2015:
The Co-Presidents establish Summit’s Award for
Valor in the name of Summit Manager Ronald Hoerner, killed in the line of duty during the 9-11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center; and the Founder’s Award for exceptional service to the company in the name of Richard N. Auletta.

2015: Summit is featured in Inc. Magazine’s “Meet the Job Creators” and makes the Inc. 5000 list for the second time as one of the fastest growing, privately-owned companies in the United States.

2016
: Summit makes the Inc. 5000 list for the third straight year.

2016: Forbes ranks Summit as #164 in the independently conducted “America’s Best Midsize Employers” survey of

: Summit christens its new, state-of-the-art Security Operations Center.
